COMPREHENSIVE TOUR BY COUNTY COUNCIL RESERVES AND DRAINAGE AREAS VISITED A comprehensive inspection of Cust riding was made by members of the Rangiora County Council yesterday The day. although dull, remained fine, and altogether more than 50 miles were covered by car • •* +„ Th> itinerary included a visit to several plantation reserves and drainage areas. Satisfaction with the condition of Paterson's and Oaks plantation reserves was expressed by members of the party. Paterson's reserve four vears ago was a gorse-infested area; to-day it is planted with pinus insignis trees and provides a sharp contrast to the neighbourhood, which, particularly on the roadside, is covered with gorse and broom. Improvements made to the grounds of the Summerhill School were commented on by the party and the chairman (Mr C. Rands) expressed his pleasure at the attempts made by the headmaster (Mr N. Bell) to beautify the surroundings. It was proposed by Mr Bell that the County Council should clear the gorse at present covering the road opposite the school. The road, which extends for about 40 cliains; has not been used for years If the job was done, Mr Bell promised to supply 10,000 trees for planting in the neighbourhood. The chairman assured him that every consideration would be given by the council to the proposal. Disappointment at the state of several frontages was expressed by members, who said they considered it was the duty of the owners concerned to keen their frontages clear in view o: the council's campaign for the elimination of dangerous corners and thr general improvement to thoroughfares PRESENTATION AT RANGIORA METHODIST CHOIR MEMBER HONOURED
