SELWYN PLANTATION BOARD
WORK DONE DURING MONTH The weather had been ideal for planting, and good progress had been made in afforesting the various reserves, the acting-superintendent (Mr E. A. Cooney) reported to the monthly meeting of the Selwyn Plantation Board yesterday morning. Planting would be completed during the week, and a total of 180,400 trees had been planted in 196 acres and. two replanting areas. In addition, 3700 Oregon, 400 macrocarpa, and 12,000 pinus insignis trees were being planted at Broughton's plantation. The lining out of pinus insignis seedlings began at the beginning of the period, and to date 520,000 had been transplanted. Conditions had been ideal for this work, which would be completed by the end of the week.
Except for the first three days at the beginning of September, when 2.82 inches of rain fell, the weather had been good. A few points of rain fell on odd days, but the month generally Had allowed the work ta progress very satisfactorily.
During.the period a total of 145,544 superficial feet of pinus insignis timber had been milled. The firewood statement showed an increase of 223 cords over last month's figures, and now stood at 1639J cords. Cutting of pine would be reduced considerably after this month, and the woodcutters at Bankside would concentrate on building,up the stock of wattle, which now stood at 101J cords. The chairman (Mr N. C. Kensington) presided at the meeting.
