WOODWARD CUP PRESENTED ANNUAL DINNER AT WAITIKIRI OPEN COMPETITIONS HELD The Waitikiri course held its first event over 18 holes yesterday when players who have competed in the Woodward Cup in-ter-club pennant competition throughout the season were engaged in playing a field day organised by the inter-club competition committee. The cup Was presented to the winning team, Russley, at the first annual dinner of those competing in the competition, by the donor, Mr L. A. Woodward. The competitions played during the day were a four-ball bogey and a Canadian foursome bogey. The course was in good order. Results were:—

Conditions were excellent for the South Canterbury amateur golf championship tournament, which was started on the Highfield course, Timaru, yesterday. FOUR-BALL BOGEY „ A four-ball bogey handicap played yesterday afternoon resulted in the first trophy being won by J. L. Mackay and E. G. Kerr. jun.. on a count-back, the second trophy being won by Adamson and McCaskill. Mackay was in excellent form and went round the 18 holes in a gross 68, two under par for the course. Mackay again won the South Canterbury amateur -championship with two excellent rounds of 71 each. The runnerup was C. Rhodes, of the St. Clair Club, who, after a round of 68, two under par for the course, failed to maintain his advantage and lost all chance of winning the championship by costly mistakes in his second round of 79. His aggregate of 147 put him five strokes behind Mackay. The intermediate championship was won by I. D. McCaskill, of Waipukurau, and the junior championship by R. L. Galloway, of the Timaru Club. The final for the Stevenson Cup, played at Rawhiti yesterday between A. C. Freeborn and A. B. 8001, was one of the most interesting matches to be played at Rawhiti. The round ended all square. The .play-off was close and interesting, the game ending with the players again all square. The third play-off will take place next week-end.

BANKS PENINSULA CHAMPIONSHIPS The first annual championships of the women's golf clubs of Banks Peninsula were held at Diamond Harbour yesterday. A total of 31 entries was received, representing five clubs. The course was in good order and a good day's golfing was enjoyed by the contestants. The senior championship was played tor the Constance de Thier Memorial Cup, given by Mr W. de Thier in memory of his wife, who was the principal founder of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club in 1920. Mr de Thier also presented a miniature cup. The cup was won by Miss Z. Hudson (Charteris Bay), with a score of 175 for 36 holes, Miss L. Grennell (Port Levy), with 182. being the runner-up. The junior championship, for a cup presented by Mr C. K. Whale, was won by Miss J. Wilson (Port Levy) with 195 for 36 holes, the runner-up being Miss G. Williams (Port Levy) with 202.
