I . . GOLF In the final of the senior golf championship of the Charteris Bay. Club played yesterday C. H. Paseoe beat L. Coombs, 7 and 6. In the semi-final of the junior championship E. J. Swain beat E. Manihera. The final of the senior championship of the Charteris Bay Ladies* Golf Club was played on Saturday between Mrs A. Jackson and Miss M. Sowden. Mrs Jackson won on the.last hole. Popularity of Diamond Harbour The popularity of Diamond Harbour as a picnic place for motorists and tramping parties was shown yesterday. At one time there were more than 60 cars parked in various parts of the district, most of them having i brought picnickers. The bathing season at • Diamond Harbour has opened early, as last week-end, and again this week-end. a few bathers were to be seen at the beach. Large Crowds Visit Warship On the occasion of her last visit to Lyttelton during her present commission, H.M.S. Achilles, flagship of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, was visited yesterday by several thousands of people. Extra trains were run to Lyttelton during the afternoon, and some hundreds of motorcars brought visitors to the port.
