SMOKE CONCERT
SYDENHAM RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB The annual smoke concert of the Sydenham Rugby Football Club was held on Thursday evening. Mr H. W. Drewery (vice-president), who presided over an attendance of about 100, referred to the very successful season the club had experienced, both on the playing fields and in its social activities. ' . . The following toasts were honoured. “The King,” “The Canterbury Rugby Football Union,’’ proposed by the chairman, and responded to by Mr J. K. Moloney: "Kindred Clubs,” proposed by Mr W. Kerr (club captain), and replied to by representatives of other clubs; “Coaches,” proposed by Mr Wallburton, and responded to by Messrs J. Young, C. Line, and H. Herron; “Old-timers.” proposed by Mr B. McKernan, and responded to by Mr Greatbach; “Referees’ Association,” and "The Newspapers.” Cups were presented by the secretary (Mr F. Rhodes). Mr W. H. Fright was the winner of the goal-kicking cup, presented for annual competition by Mr H. W. Drewery, and Mr S. Coote was the winner of the snooker cup. Mr Fright, 'captain of the senior team, presented Mr C. Oliver, the senior coach, with a gold pencil in recognition of his work for the team. Musical items were given by the Pitt brothers and Messrs C. O’Hagan, C. Morris, Hoyle, and D. Wilkins.
