' ■ COMPULSORY CONFERENCE BREAKS DOWN DISPUTE REFERRED- TO ' COURT . - MELBOURNE,: September 23. The compulsory conference of parties to the coalmines’ dispute ■ broke down." The conference was, convened at the order of the Federal Arbitration Court. The dispute has been referred to the Federal Arbitration Court. J;udge-,Beeby, who presided at today’s conference, which lasted less than an hour, intimated that he w.as prepared to begin an inquiry as soon as possible and then issue minutes of a proposed award as a basis for a further conference. EXPLOSION IN MINE v ; SYDNEY; September 23. . An'explosion, which was heard eight miles away occurred last night on the Rothbury Estate, - where small coalmines are being worked with “free” labour. Officials of the colliery have refused to give any- information, but it is understood that theire has been no material damage caused. IMPORTATION OF SUPPLIES FROM BRITAIN , SYDNEY, September 23. A shipping agent has received advice by. cablegram that 12 vessels have- been chartered to bring 100,000 tons of coal "from the United Kingdom to Australia for use in public utilities,
