Mrs W. D. Campbell and Miss Margaret Campbell (Wai-iti road) have returned from a visit to Wellington. Miss Patricia Wigley (Kurow) is staying with Mrs A. Wigley, “Opuha Lodge," Park lane.
BLENHEIM NEWS At the Malplaquet rooms the members of the play-reading circle of the Victoria League read an interesting play. Those taking part were Mesdames W. de Castro, W. K. Gill, W. Mitchell, A. O. Webb, G. Mitchell; and W. F. Watters, Miss M. Macdonald, Messrs J. C. Irving, Eaton, and R. Grigg. Those present included Mesdames E. F. Grigg, G. M. Spence, F. Bull, F. W. Horton, A. E. WOMEN'S DIVISION OF
MARSHLAND BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Marsh-land-branch of the 'Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held recently. ’ Mrs Marks presided. Hie balance-sheet for the recent birthday party showed a credit of £5. It was decided to send a grant to the Makogai leper appeal. Nurse Corkill, of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association, gave an address on the origin and work of the association. The speaker was given parcels of clothing for distribution. The roll call was “Jokes.” Competitions resulted- as follows: Bloom, Miss Innes and Mrs N. Treleaven (equal) 1, Mrs L. Hale 2; pikelets, senior, Mrs Marks 1, Mrs N.-Tre-leaven 2; junior. Miss J. Mrs H. M. Burgin presided at the September meeting of the Swannanoa branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
I Arrangements were made for the children’s fancy dress party on October 7. An address on child psychology was given by Miss Doreen Dolton. A competition for biscuits was.won by Mrs F. McHugh, with Mrs Davis second. Hostesses were Mrs C. Winter and Mrs George Winter. HOCKEY CLUB’S DANCE
The annual dance of the West Old Girls’ Hockey Club was held in the Jellicoe Hall, and guests danced to the music supplied by Mr.S. Shackel’s orchestra. Mr W. Waites was master of ceremonies.

Chidgey, Stella Dow, Daisy and Edna Rogers (Halswell), Eileen Le Page, Ngaire Clements, Marjorie Le Page, Gwen Stewart, Hilda McClelland, and Dorothy Hall, AFTERNOON SOCIAL The members of the Akaroa branch of the Workers’ Educational Association were entertained by Miss B. E. Baughan at her home in Akaroa. The beautiful display of narcissi and spring blossoms in Miss Baughan’s garden was much admired. Afternoon tea was served on the sun-porch. Those present were Miss B. E. Baughan, Mesdames A. W. Aitchison, and C, Dalbeth, Misses I. Mahan, A. Brocherie. L. Vangioni, B. Jacobson, N. Haylock, Pollock, and E. Opie.

BRIDGE PARTY A successful afternoon bridge party was held in the Pier Plunket Rooms by the members of the Sumner-Redcliffs branch of the Plunket Society. ■ Those present were Mesdames H. G. COMING-OF-AGE A pleasant afternoon party was given by Mr and Mrs W. McLaren (Springston) to celebrate the coming-of-age of their third daughter, Isobel Annie. Mr A. G. Sutton presented Miss McLaren with the customary gold key. Those present were Mr and Mrs W. McLaren, Mr and Mrs G. Gale, Mr and Mrs A. G. Sutton, Mr and Mrs W. J. Dailey, Mr and Mrs J. F.
