ELECTION OF GRADUATES’ REPRESENTATIVES EIGHT NOMINATIONS FOR FIVE SEATS (PBCSS ASSOCIATION TKLKGKiMI WELLINGTON, September 22. The election to the Senate of the University of New Zealand of five representatives of graduates will take place on . October 5, and the results will be announced about October 14. The last election, three years ago, was not contested; but this year there are eight nominations, including those of the five sitting members. The nominees are;— Mrs Gertrude Helen Bensdn, M.A., wife of Professor W, N. Benson, Otago University. Mrs Benson was educated at Newnham College, Cambridge. She hold the Natural Science Tripos of Cambridge University, and the diploma of home science, King’s College, London. For four years she was professor of home science at Otago University, and dean of the faculty. She is a past president of the New Zealand Federation of University Women, and was delegate to the Pan-Pacific Science Congress in Japan in 1926.

Mr F. H. Campbell, M.A., of Dunedin. Mr Campbell was senior assistant at Otago Boys’ High School until about 18 nionths ago, when he retired. He was at one time lecturer in German at Otago Univer*ity, and is a past president of the Teachers’ Appeal Board.

Mr N. M. P. Gibson, M.A., of Auckland. Mr Gibson has been principal of Dilworth School, Auckland, since 1914, and is a member of the university entrance board.

Mr F. A. Dc La Marc. 8.A., LL.B., of Hamilton. Mr De La Mare is a former member of the Senate. He represented Victoria University College at football from 1902 to 1910, and was also prominent in athletics, cricket, and tennis. He was president of the Victoria College Students’ Association in 1907, and is a life member of the association. He served overseas in the Great War, and was dangerously wounded at Passchendaele. / In later years he has taken part in the control of sports organisations. He is now practising law at Hamilton.

Mr A. E. Flower, M.A., M.Sc.. of Christchurch. Formerly on the

staff of-Christ’s College, Mr Flower is chairman of the Canterbury University College Council. He represented Canterbury College at football, athletics, and tennis. Dr. William Ncwlands, M.A., B.Sc. (N.Z.), M.8.. Ch.B. (Edin.), F.R.C.S. (Edin.) of Dunedin. Dr. Newlands is chairman of the Medical Council of New Zealand, and was formerly lecturer on clinical surgery a£ Otago University. He was at one time a surgeon ,at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Professor G. W. von Zedlitz, M.A. (Oxford), of Wellington. Professor von Zedlitz was professor of modern languages at Victoria College from 1902 to 1915. He is now principal of the university tutorial school. Mr T. U. Wells, M.A., of Auckland. Mr Wells was Tor many years a teacher in the Auckland Education Board’s district. He is now principal of the correspondence coaching college. He is on the council of Auckland University College, of which he was chairman for 1935-36. Recently he retired from the chairmanship of the Auckland Education Board.
