CONFERENCE OPENS IN AUCKLAND (FUSS iSSOCIITIOK : TIUOU3I.) AUCKLAND. September 21. Representing various branches,- of the motor trade throughout Ne.w Zealand. about 50 delegates attended the opening session of the annual'conference of the New Zealand Motor Trades’ Federation. Delegates were welcomed by the Deputy-Mayor, Mr J- A. C. Allum. The president of the federation is Mr V. .J. McKibben. of Christchurch. Referring to the phenomenal growth of the motor trade, in. New Zealand, Mr Allum said that, in the Auckland metropolitan area the number of vehicles had increased from 20,089 in 1933 - to 32,190 in 1937. The ratio of vehicles to population was one vehicle to 7.2. It was a compliment to the enterprise of the Dominion that it stood second to America, in motor ownership, and it appeared as though the peak had not yet been reached. - - The annual meeting of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association was held in the afternoon, and at night various matters affecting the" trade were discussed. - Thefollowing council members were' appointed to represent local' associations: —Messrs H.
