PRE-ELECTION PROMISES
to tn BDiTom .or. in, paesa. Sir,—l have to thank Mr Steve Jonsoh for the comments he expressed on my letter . about the way in which Labour has not kept its pre-election promises. I will take Mr Jonson’s word for it that the 12 major planks of Labour's platform have become law. These 12 planks seem to be; (1) Sock the taxpayer; (2) sock him a' second time; and so on, right up to* 12. I can only repeat that even Mr Jonson will admit that the sales tax, exchange, unemployment tax, increased cost of living, etc., are still very, much with us. , _ Since reading Mr Jonson s letter, I have taken his advice and read a copy of .the “Standard;” ■■ Putting aside its startling deficiencies in literary style, I can only say to Mr Jonson that there who take the “Standard” as a political guide should also learn to sing “uod Defend New Zealand.”—Yours, etc., WORKER. September 20, 19j38.
