With the exception of one clause governing under-rate workers, complete agreement was reached at a sitting of the Conciliation Council, which was held yesterday to hear an industrial dispute between the Christchurch Gardeners’ Industrial Union of Workers and the Christchurch Domains Board, and others. The Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) presided, and with him were Messrs W. B. Brockie. R, Gollan, W. H. *Mathison, and J. Roberts, assessors for the union;'and C. H. Jones, JI N. McLeod, W. J. Humm, and J.,8. Trudgeon, assessors for the employers. Wages were fixed at riot less than 2s 7d an hour for nurserymen, landscape - .gardeners, and gardeners.' If engaged , by ,the week the wage shall be £5 a week. Gardeners’ labourers, if riot engaged by the week, shall <be paid not less than 2s 3d an hour or £4 10s a week if engaged by the week. A worker in charge of four men or more shall be paid 2s a day extra. Any worker coming within the scope of the award, who is required to work a horse or tractor, shall receive 5s a day extra. Youths may be employed at the following rates: Under 17 years of age, £1 10s a' week; 17 years to 18 years, £2 2s 6d; 18 to 19, £2 12s 6d; 19 to 20, £3 2s 6d; 20 to 21, £3 15s; and thereafter not less than the rates set out above. Females'may be employed at the following rates; First year, £1 5s a week; second year, £4 10s; third year, £1 15s; fourth year, £2 ss; and thereafter >not less than £2 10s a week.

The recognised holidays on full pay shall be Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and the day following, Good, Friday, Easter Monday, Sovereign’s birthday, Anzac Day and Labour day. One other day may be substituted for the . Sovereign’s birthday by mutual agreement between the employer and his workers. In addition to these holidays each worker shall be allowed one week’s annual holiday.
