ELECTION AND BAND CONTEST PROVINCIAL FIXTURE POSTPONED TTHE IpKESS Special Service.] TEMUKA, September 20. The selection of the same day for the provincial band contest at Temuka as that chosen for the, General Election was discussed at a meeting to-night of the Band Contest Committee. Thirteen
bands throughout , Canterbury hav« been affected by the -coincidence at dates. "•• "'■ „'•■". Moving that the present date, October 15, be changed to October 22,;- Mr A. W. Buzan, Mayor of Temuka,- and president of the •committee, said that apart from the lack of interest 'that •would be shown, holding the - contest on election day would present many difficulties. Mr G. C.Tully, the secretary-of the committee, said that if" the contest was held over until November, four of the bands would riot be t able to compete because of the sheading season. There were race _ meetings ftand other big draws on week-ends round the date first chosen, but October 22 .seemed the best day. ... ..;/'. The motion was carried arid the wbrl of arranging for the contest -proceed*!
