LINWOOD CLUB'S RECORD CONGRTAULATIONS OF ] UNION EVANS AND REDPATH SHIELDS WON

Congratulations were extended to the Linwood Club on its remarkable record of winning the senior championship, the Evans Shield for most points in all grades, the Redpath Memorial Shield for most points in grades below senior, and no fewer than five lower grade championships at last evening's meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union. "It must be many years since a cIUD has had such a successful year as Linwood has this season," said the president (Mr J. K. Moloney). "It is a very fine performance and speaks well for the organisation of a club when it does so well in the flower grades." Mr W. A. Britten seconded the president's resolution to record the congratulations in the minutes. The last of the competitions to be closed were the senior knock-out competition for the union's challenge cup and the fourth grade. Sunnyside was declared the winner of the former, with Christchurch runner-up, and Linwood the winner of the latter, with Technical runner-up. Matches on Saturday

ACTION OF TECHNICAL PLAYERS PROTEST FROM THISTLE CLUB A protest against the action of Technical third grade team players in taking part in the junior knock-out competition on September 10 and then playing in the .third grade knock-out competition for the Watson Cup last Saturday was made to the management committee of the Canterbury' Football Association last evening by the Thistle Club. It was decided to ad.vise the Thistle Club that the Technical players' action was in order, as they were duly registered third grade players, and were not playing in the semi-final or the final of the junior knock-out competition on September 10. The Westland Association wrote suggesting that the junior representative game for the Dewar Cup be played at Greymouth en October 1. It was agreed to suggest to the Westland Association that the match be played on October 8, so as to enable the Canterbury Association to complete the knock-out competition for the Humphreys Cup on October ■l. The secretary (Mr R. B. Bunt) reported that arrangements had been made for a match between H.M.S. Achilles and the Air Force at English Park at 2.45 pjn. to-day The Otago Football Association wrote stating that it would not be able to play another match for the Jones. Cup this season. Because of Chatham Cup fixtures and wet weather, the Otago Football Association's own competition was well behind schedule, the letter said. , The winners of the private primary schools' competition were as follows: A Grade—Marist A, runner-up, St Mary's A.
