OBITUARY
MRS P. J. HILL The death occurred at her home at Dunsandel recently of Mrs P. J. Hill, in her seventy-sixth year. Mrs Hill was horn in Christchurch, and edu* cated at the Selwyn School. She was the eldest daughter pf Mr and Mrs M, S. pickson. Mr Dickson arrived in New Zealand from Scotland, in one of the First Four Ships, the Charlotte Jane, and he was married tq Miss AE. Fayle after her arrival from England two years later in the Zealandia. Mrs Hill is survived, by her husband, three daughters, and seven son's, 39 grandchildren, and three great-grand-children. The daughters are Mrs S. L. Ashbolt (Christchurch), Mrs A, Wilson (Ellesmere), and Mrs T. R, Greer (Ashburton), and the sons are Messrs Alfred, Leicester, and Kenneth Hill (Dunsandel), Laurence HjH (Ashbur-/ ton), B. Hill (Templeton), Frank and Ronald Hill (Christchurch). Four sons predeceased Mrs Hill. Pall-bearers at the funeral were Messrs V. Ashbolt, S. Hill, A. Hill, and R. Wilson (grandsons), and T. Greer and A. Wilson (sons-in-law). MRS K. E. RICHARDS The death occurred at Timaru on Sunday of Mrs Kate Elizabeth Richards, who had spent the greater part of her life in South Canterbury. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Mrs Richards was the daughter of Mr Edward PolhiU, pioneer of that state. Her early life was spent on such wellknown sheep stations as TwcockQwie. York's Peninsula, and Mount Bryan, South Australia. After her parents' death, when she was still a child, Mrs Richards lived with her couzins, Arch- ; deacon and. Mrs Morse, of Adelaide and Yankalilla. At the age of 18, she came tq New Zealand to her uncle, Mr Frank PolbiJl. then of Lake Heron Station. Mrs Riehards married, in 1884, John Deeton Charles, second son of the late Pr, Henry Richards, one of the Canterbury pilgrims. The earlier part of her married life was spent at "Dinda Farm,"' Tenvuka, Hajncliff Station, and Mount Nessing Station, where her husband was manager, and the latter part in Timaru. Qf a family pf four sons and four sons, Mr L. S. Richards (Timaru) and Mr R. D. Richards (Wellington)—and four daughters— Mjrs B, (Weedons), Mrs H. Hayhurst (Timaru), and Misses I. C. Richards (Timaru) —survive her. MRS CATHERINE STARK The death occurred recently at hei home in North road, Kaiapoi. of Mrs Catherine Stark, a very old and respected resident of Kaiapoi, Mrs Stark, who was 78 years of age was the eldest daughter pf the late Mr and Mrs Kenneth Mcintosh, early settlers of Kaiapoi and Southbrook. Shreceived her early education at Mist Parnham's school, and at the old Kaiapoi Church of England day schopl. Mrs Stack was a loj a supporter of St, Paul's Presbyterian Church, Kaiapoi, and one of its oldest members In her younger days she took a keen interest in church activities and was a teacher in the Sunday school. ' Her husband, Mr W. Stark, died in 1932, and she is survived by a family of two sons, Messrs W. H. Stark and G. Stark.' and four daughters, Misp M. Stark, Miss A. Stark, Miss J. Star* and Mips N, Stark. 13 grandchildren and one. great grandchild. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which took place at the KaiaIpQi Public Cemetery. The services a 1 the home and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. N. J, Stevenson and the pull-bearers were Mr K. Mclh tosh and Mr J. G. Ironside (nephews) and Messrs P. G. Hunt and G. Forbes (Waiau) and Mr R? Craig. Novelty dances were won by Miss Doris O'Leary and Mr W. Partington. Miss Patricia Forbes (Waiau). and Mr P. Marsh,. Miss Marjorie Tair and Mr P. Marsh. Miss Doreen Tait and Mr B. Rose, Miss Rewa Partington and Mr W. Partington. Mr A. Partington was master of ceremonies. Among those present were Mesdames L. Forbes (Waiau). C, Fitzgibbon, W. Dreaver, S, Denton, A. Fleming. Misses Patricia Forbes (Waiau). Doreen Tait, Marjorie Tait, Dallas Wilkinson, Mona McDonald, Marjorie Childs, Dernadine Martin. Mary O'Boyle.' Janice Denton. Rewa Partington, Daphne Pain, Louie Powis, Doris Q'Leary, Connie Rowe, Rene McQueen, Harriett Leach (Christchurch), and Molly O'Connor (Rangiora).
