LADY RUNCIMAN

A GREAT DIPLOMAT

Accompanying her husband to Czechoslovakia on the delicate mission he undertook in that troubled country Lady Runciman is recognised to be very much of a diplomat herself. Everv great diplomat who visits England is a guest at the Runciman house, and Lddy Runciman is noted for the ease, charm, and brilliance 'of her entertaining; ' , With all her brilliance, she is devoted to her hpme life, and it was really a sacrifice to her to give it up to a great extent when she stood for Parliament, and was elected in 1928. Then, for the first time in history, a husband acted as sponsor to his wife on taking the oath. Both Lady Runciman and her husband are fond of yachting and have undertaken many cruises. Until Lord Runciman was called upon to undertake his mission as mediator, in the Czechoslovakian dispute, she had looked forward to their spending the summer holidays at their home, Doxford Hall, in Northumberland, where she conducts the farm with characteristic efficiency. ■ , .
