There was a very good: attendance members and visitors at the opening the Woolston Tennis Club. The president ; (Mr E. S. Parish) said that the occasionwas the twenty-fifth opening -of the club, and that it was intended to celebrate the ; twenty fifth, anniversary with a reunion of past and present members on January 28. next year. The club had proved _ self a very successful sports body in the*'district since its inception in 1914. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. S. Barnett) congratulated members on the independent spirit 'which had prompted them, toV " buy their own ground and maintain it in * a very successful manner, as indicated by_ the state of the finances of the club andby its social standing. v • Declaring the season ~open, Mr Barnett wished members a happy and successful. year. - - _-

ANNUAL MEETING HELD
The annual meeting of the Avonside *. Lawn Tennis Club was held on Thursday evening. The president (Mr G. L. Berry) * congratulated the club on a very success- - ful season. The overdraft had been paidoff, and there was a credit balance of £4O 0s 9d. There had also been an increase in. membership.
