OBITUARY

MRS ELIZABETH HARRIS

The death occurred recently at Kaikoura of Mrs Elizabeth Harris, a wellknown resident of the distract. Mrs Harris, who was 73 years,of age, was the wife of the late Mr J. W. Harris, and a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. H. Stretch, formerly of Kekerangu. For-many years Mr and Mrs Harris farmed in Suburban Kaikoura and were amongst the early pioneers there, Mrs' Harris took a great interest in affairs of the Presbyterian Church, and was highly respected in the Marlborough Province. , . , The Rev. W. J. Bevls conducted the funeral services. Mrs Harris is survived by three sons: Messrs W. H. Harris (Kaikoura), Henry Harris (Kaikoura), and Ernest Harris tßiccarton), and two- daughters, Mrs R. F. Clark (Wellington), and Mrs H. C Harrison (Kaikoura). Mr Harris died 20 years ago. .

MRS E. . HARVEY

Mrs Emma Harvey, who died at Hokitika yesterday afternoon, had spent most of her life on the West Coast She was 84 years of age. Born in Australia, Mrs Harvey came to New Zealand with her parents, and had resided at Hokitika ever since. She was a prominent member of the Roman Catholic community. Mrs Harvey is survived by one son, Mr Henry Harvey (Hokitika), and .three daughters, Mrs O. Christian* Miss E. Harvey, both of Hokitika, and Mrs J. Horan, of Christchurch. Her husband died many years ago. Miss Fitzsimmons. of Hokitika, is her twin sister, and they had never been parted for any length of time. Mrs H. Lieske (Christchurch) is another sister.

Miss Noeleen Bishop, one of Ca©terbury’s leading tennis players, who has - more than once been a- member of the Nunneley Casket team, is to be; married next month to Mr E. Macandrfew. of Dunedin. To do her honour many of her friends arranged, a tennis party, which was held at Wilding Park yesterday afternoon, when Mr R Browning, president of the Canterbury Lawn Tenhis Association, on behalf of the guests, wished her great happiness in the future, and made her a presentation. Those present were Miss Bishop, Miss Melva Wake. Miss Barbara Gould, Miss Mavis Saunders, Miss Fay Fleetwood Mrs Y. C. Browne, Mrs W. Peppier Mrs J. D. Carl. Mrs D. A. Gunn. Mrs H. S. Fox, Mrs E. A. FREE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION

PLANS FOR DAFFODIL DAY

Plans for Daffodil Day in October were made at a meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. It was decided to have a flower and cake stall as usual in Victoria Square, and suggestions were made for obtaining flowers. Members of the committee were asked to approach friends who could help by giving flowers. Comprehensive reports were received from the principal and from the directors of the seven kindergartens controlled by the association. Reports showed That attendances for the new term were good. Mrs H. T, J. Thacker and Mrs A. K. Hadfield, who represented the association at the Dominion conference, reported that the conference had been a success, and that a full report would be submitted at the next meeting. Pleasure was expressed at the interest which parents are taking in the kindergartens, as exemplified by the practical help which they give.

COMING-OF-AGE PARTIES

An enjoyable party was held in the Town Hall, Cheviot, when Mr and Mrs L. Cone entertained a large number of friends on the occasion of the twen-ty-first birthday anniversary of their daughter. Nola. . The time was spent in dancing, games, and competitions, the music being played by Miss P. Forbes (Waiau) L. Forbes, R. Craig, and G. Walls. Competition winners were Miss D. Pain and Mr W.
