THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

SEVERAL BILLS PASSED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, September 14. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. \ The Statutes Amendment Bill was read a first time, and a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Finance Bill, the Dairy Industry Amendment Bill, the Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill, the Carter Observatory Bill, the Agricultural Emergency Regulations Confirmation Bill, and the King George V Memorial Fund Bill were put through all stages and passed. When the Finance Bill was being read a second time, the Hon. W Perry referred to the improved provisions for war pensioners and veterans, and said the action taken by the Government was greatly appreciated by the returned soldiers of New Zealand.

The Council adjourned at 3.40 p.m. until to-morrow afternoon.
