STAFF’S FIRST BALL A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING The routine of office a £ d nf w t n was forgotten by the staff of the Ph t U Tailors last evening, when they en tertained their friends at their first annual ball, held at the Mayfair Lounge. An initial venture of this kind demands the co-operation oi ali staff members to make it successful, and a particularly capable organising committee. The entertainment last evening proved most enjoyable ana successful and justified the committee s decision to make it an annual event. Mrs L. F. Williams and Messrs R. Wadman and B. Chamberlain were in charge of arrangements, and the music was supplied by the Mayfair Lounge Orchestra. , , , Mr and Mrs F. W. Pankhurst were the guests of honour. A sash of pimento red velvet looped in front provided an effective contrast on Mrs Pankhurst’s frock of finely patterned stiffened black lace. Mrs Williams wore a black silk cloque frock with a corsage spray of pastel pink and blue velvet flowers.

BALL AT WAIKARI MINIATURE RIFLE CLUBS The combined Waikari Miniature Rifle Clubs held their annual ball and presentation of prizes in the waxicari Public Hall. ~ Music was played by Cohn Campbell’s band and extras by Mrs W. Traill. Novelty dances were won by Mr L. Saundercock and Miss Nina Honeybone, and Mr D. Fairbairn and Miss Joyce Honeybone, and winners of competitions were Mrs T. Widdowson with Miss E. M. Ives. Messrs W. Traill and J. McCreanor were masters of ceremonies. , , The president of the men s club, Mi L P. Honeybone, welcomed the visitors from the various clubs, and thanked the officers of the club for their support during the year, Mrs H. Saundercock, president of the women s club, paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Miss B. Megowan, and other officials, and congratulated the prizewinners. She mads a small presentation to the armourers, Messrs J. Hall, L. D Smith, and F. C. Trounce, in recognition of their valuable coaching during the year. Among those present were Mr* and Mrs L P. TRAVEL CLUB The Travel Club’s meeting was held at Ballantyne’s yesterday morning, when Professor F. Sinclaire. who recently returned from a trip abroad, gave an interesting account of his visit to Italy and England. Miss Ailsa Crompton sang and was accompanied by Mrs J. H. Cocks. Mrs B. C. Penney, the hostess, thanked the speaker and the musicians for the pleasure they had given to members. The guests of honour were Miss E. M. Sykes (Vancouver). Mr and Mrs Goodyear (England), the Rev. AFTERNOON PARTY A very enjoyable musical afternoon party in aid of the Harmonic Society’s spring fair was arranged by Mrs H. J. S. Goodman and Mr C. L. Peters, conveners of the delicatessen stall, with the assistance of their committee. The party’ was held at the home of Mrs Goodman, Bryndwr road, and 40 guests were present. I Those contributing to the programme were Mesdames C. C. Holland, R. E. Voller. W. E. Olds. M. Gale, Misses Molly Hatherley, Ailsa Goodman, and Mr R. J. McLaren. Members of the committee are Mesdames S. J. L. Hewitt. W. H. Down, S. Ayling. A. S. Elsom. Niven Forrest, W. M. Cotter, and W. Machin. WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION HORORATA BRANCH Mrs W. Thwaites presided at the monthly meeting of the Hororata branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The roll call was "A hand emollient." Miss J.
