THE NEXT CONVERSION LOAN

TO TBS EDITOR OT XKS FREES. Sir, —Mr H. G. Dickie -wants to know how the Government is going to get on with the next conversion loan. In my opinion the . Government should easily be able to get the loan

converted at the same rate of mteiwg as Australia or any other Domiruon. If not, the Government-can do as did the last Government, cut down imports. But instead of leaving the increased export balance to lie in the banks. Mt it to pay off the loan. By cutting down imports, as did the last Government the overseas national debt could bn paid off in 10 or 15 years. There is another move, however. The Minister For Finance could approach the Chancellor of the Exchequer for a loan to pay it off. This should, be easily successful and much the best way.—Yours, etc™ KAYE HOE. September 14, 1938.
