ESTIMATED DAIRY SURPLUS
GOVERNMENT ASKED TO DEFINE INTENTIONS
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 13.
A request for a public announcement defining the Government’s intentions regarding the disposal of the estimated surplus of £500,000 in the dairy industry account for last season was contained in an urgent question asked by Mr C. A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmont) in the House of Representatives to-day. The farmers who had produced this surplus, said Mr Wilkinson. were exceedingly anxious for a clear statement of the position. "There will never be any clearer statement made on the accounts than that to be submitted in the report of the Primary Products Marketing Department,” said the Minister for Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, in reply. “As soon as the report is completed, it will be presented to the House and the country. The report will set out the Government's policy in detail, and account for every" farthing of the money. Mr Wilkinson: Will the report be out before the election? The Minister did not reply.
