During the game McCormick, the Australian fast bowler, strained a muscle in his left thigh. He will not be able to play during the remainder of the tour. Hutton batted stubbornly for 50 in 115 minutes. Leyland was early also subdued, until he stepped out and straight drove O’Reilly for six. after which both batsmen were more enterprising. They added 36 in 70 minutes before lunch. Leyland, after scoring 50 in 75 minutes, was bowled by a perfect ball. Hutton soon followed. He batted 165 minutes and hit eight fours. Hardstaff gave a great display. He handled the spin well, and, with Gibb, put on 100 in 55 minutes. Hardstaff continued driving brilliantly, and reached the century in only 115 minutes. He straight drove both O’Reilly and FleetwoodSi.iith for six. and also hit 14 fours. Ward and O’Reilly batted for a quarter of an hour without scoring, refusing several easy singles.
