U.S. NAVY IN THE PACIFIC
DESTROYERS ON SECRET
MISSIONS
CO-OPERATION WITH FRANCE AND BRITAIN (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received September 13, 11.50 p.m.) HONOLULU, September 13. It is understood that Admiral Blakely is to direct a series of longdistance ‘exercises taking navy bombers as far south as Johnson Island. The destroyer McCall left for an unrevealed destination in the Sduth Pacific and the destroyer Maury is expected shortly to undertake a similar secret mission. The moves are regarded as efforts by the United States to consolidate aerial and naval defence lines with the British and Trench to tighten the cordon from Singapore across the Pacific through Tahiti to Panama.
