vale challenge shield ELLESMERE WINS ANNUAL : TEAMS’ MATCH The annual teams* match for the Christchurch Gun Club’s Vale challenge shield was decided on the club grounds at Sockburn on Saturday afternoon, Ellesmere No. 1 winning the match. The weather was fair. The competition is open to teams from clubs in the North Canterbury district affiliated to the New Zealand Gun Clubs Association, and the shield been competed for on 14 occasions, the Christchurch Gun Club haying won eight matches and Ellesmere six matches. Five teams took part in the match, the Ellesmere Gun Club finding two teams and Christchurch, Belfast-Kaiapoi, and North Canterbury gun clubs, one team each. Conditions were seven men a team. 12 birds each off 21 y ards - „ ' The winning team was Ellesmere No. 1, which finished with a total' score ol 61. Other scorers wereChristchurch 60. Ellesmere No. 2 60, Belfast-Kalapoi 47, and North Canterbury 44. Mr R. S. Taylor (president of the New Zealand Gun Clubs' Association) presented the shield. w An optional sweepstake resulted in W. Winchester, with 11 birds, taking first prize money, and six others with 10 birds each - dividing second and third prize In a six-bird sweepstake, five shooters scored the possible and divided first, second, and third prize money. Those with possibles were; S. Lubb, W. Quigley, L. Kars, W. McVinney. and L. Chambers. An American clay shoot of 10 birds resulted in D. Doreen. J. Brightling, and E. A. Washbourne. with possibles, dividing first, second, and third prize money. Mr L. A. Shand was the referee.
