Barlow beat Mrs L. F. Regnault, Mrs F. J. Glackin had a bye. An Impressive Performance Royal Chief was not long in Sydney before having his first success. After his good gallop at Randwick last week, he no doubt would be at a short price in the Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, and he appears I to have had a comfortable win in the good time of Imin 51{sec for nine furlongs, the Australian and New Zealand record being Imin 49|sec held by Fuji San, F. D, Jones, trainer of Royal Chief, has now won the Chelmsford Stakes four times, Limerick winning the race on three successive occasions for him. Avenger was a high-class three-year-old, and at the end of the season there was very little between Avenger, Ajax and Hua. Avenger won the A.J.C. Derby from Ajax and Hua, and ran third in the V.R.C Derby to Hua and Ajax, so that Royal Chiefs defeat of his younger rival indicates that he is likely to go on to further high honours on his present trip. Serious Oversight
When breeders neglect to famish their returns to the Stud Book, the results are sometimes serious. Here is an instance of it, as the entries of Lord Windburra for the Australian Jockey Club Derby and Victoria Derby were rejected. The conditions of the Derbies stipulate that “no horse shall be eligible to compete that has not been returned and accepted for inclusion in a recognised Stud Book, at least six months prior to the date of running.” Lord Windburra did not comply with that condition.
