NO DECISION YET
SECOND COURT OF ARBITRATION
FUTURE HAS STILL TO BE SETTLED
That it had not yet been decided whether the Second Court of Arbitration would continue to operate after November, when its allotted term expires, was stated by the Minister for Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) in an interview on Saturday. The Minister was not able to make any definite statement about the future of the Court.
Mr Armstrong said that no attempt was being made at present to replace Mr A. W. Croskery. the workers’ representative on the Court, who announced his resignation recently. Asked whether that was any indication that the Second Court would go out of fexistence, the Minister said: “You can draw your own conclusions.” There was no point in appointing a successor to Mr Croskery until the future of the Court was settled, he said. If Mr Croskery were unable to continue with the Court until November, his deputy, Mr G. T. Thurston, could fill the vacancy in the meantime.
Mr Croskery had asked to he relieved of his office by the end of this month, Mr Armstrong added, and the Court had now adjourned to clean up the business on hand. That would mean that complaints about delay in the completion of the Court’s business would be answered by the completion of everything outstanding.
