"I congratulate Mr McPhail on retiring," said a member of the Sydenham Rugby Football Club last night when commenting on Mr A. E. McPhail's retirement from the position of president of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union. "I believe that the position should go round," he continued. The remark, which was greeted with laughter, was further explained by the member. "I do not mean my congratulations to cast any reflection on Mr McPhail," he said, "but I do think that others could take a leaf out of his book."
