Owing to the financial "position of the Canterbury Rugby Union it was impossible to erant any extra assistance to the club last "season. The club's grant the previous year was £6' 0s 3d. Teams were entered for the first, second third, fourth, fifth, under 18, under 16 and schoolboys' grades, but owing to' insufficient players the under 16 t<\un had to be withdrawn. Oliver captained the South Island team against the North Island, and also represented New Zealand, and toured Australia with the AJt Blacks. Regret at the deaths of the following is expressed:—Mrs Evans, an old-time woman member, and wife of Mr F. T. Evan?, a lue-member and past president: "Mrs Chambers, wite of Mr T. F Chambers, a life-member; Mr M. F. Barnett. a vice-president: and Mrs Taylor, an old friend and supporter of the club. CHRISTCHURCH CLUIJ The Chn.'-tshuiTli Football Club held its sixty-eighth annual meeting last evening- Mr Dcnys Hoare presided over a lar-c attendance. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr Hoare said the report was satisfactory m several ways. For one. it was the sixtv-eighth report. This was satisfacto'rv in itself, but was still more so when considered m conjunction with the fact that after all these years the club was in a remarkably healthy condition. The membership had increased during the year: a good showing had been made in the various competitions: and the finances were in a sound condition. There were numerous other points that he could cite, said Mr Hoare. For instance, during the year committee members had maintained a fins record ol' attendances at meetings. Mr Hoare concluded by congratulating the club on its achievements and expressing the hope that it would more than match them in th? luture Mr G. H. Frater. club captain, extended to aii of.'.cialc, coaches, and ether helper-, his hearty thanks lor the assistance tlvy had given him during the Ho was sure that the club was. a- Mr Hoare had said, in a remarkably healthy condition. Results in the c< mpetitions had been good, and, as club captain, he had been pleased to note that more players had turned up to practice. Mr Frater emphasised that training was not only one of the most important parts of the game, but it could be made one of the most, pleasant parts also. SYDENHAM CLUB The fifty-third annual meeting of the Sydenham Rugby Football Club was 'held last night, Mr W. A. Britten presiding over an attendance of about 60 members. Commenting on the annual report, the chairman exhorted the members of the club, particularly the younger T»embers, to attend the church parade. jThe attendance last season had been jpoor and .some improvement '*as shown, the practice oC holding a church parade each year woald have to abandoned. WELLINGTON UNION A SATISFACTORY SEASON FINANCIALLY (FRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.!" WELLINGTON, March 11. The annual report of the Wellington Rugby Union states that, taking adverse factors into account, the last season from a financial point of view must be regarded as satisfactory, the gate receipts being 'slightly ahead of those of 1933. The standard of play, however, did not reach the level of the previous season. The year ended with a credit balance of £132. RUGBY LEAGUE LAST MEETING OF YEAR The last meeting of the outgoing committee of the Canterbury Rugby League was held in the Trades Hall last evening, Mr W. S. E. Moyle presiding. It was resolved to hold the annual meeting of the league on Monday, March 25. All interested in the game will be invited to attend, but only delegates will be allowed to participate in the business of the meeting. A letter was received from the West Coast League acknowledging receipt of a cheque for £8 16s 2d, the share of gate proceeds from a match at Christchurch. The letter expressed thanks for the Canterbury League's sporting attitude. A letter from the Reefton Rugby League Club stated that at the annual meeting of the club it had been decided to ask the Canterbury centre to arrange an excursion to Reel'ton at Easter, and to obtain teams to travel and thereby help the code in Inangahua. It was decided to refer the letter to all Christchurch clubs for favourable consideration. Junior Advisory Board At the annual meeting of the Junior Advisory Board Mr R. A. Drury presided. The annual report stated that new registrations totalled 295 and 39 teams were with the league, one of these teams being from a well-known factory in the city. The Canterbury schoolboy representative team had visited the West Coast and successfully defended the challenge for the Norman Cox Memorial Cup, which had now been held by Canterbury for some years. The Canterbury team had won by about 40 points. Congratulations were extended to the manager, coach, and selectors. The committee wished to impress upon clubs the importance of teams turning out on the field of play in correct uniforms. Now that the league code was coming into its own in the province not only was it essential, but it was every club's duty to see that ihfi teams, irrespective of the grade, were correctly dressed in club attne. The report was adopted. Mr R A. Drury was re-elected chairman and Mr E. McSweeney was reelected secretary. The remaining officers will be elected at a futui e date. Tho incoming committee was recommended to form a classification subcommittee to grade teams in the coming season. .. The entries for the various competitions will close on April 8, and the competitions will start on April 13. PIRATES' CLL'B At the second annual meeting of the Pirates Rugby League Club, Mr P. Kirton presided over a fair attendance of members. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. , The election of officers resulted as fellows: —Patron. Mr T. Harper, sen.; president. Mr P. It was decided that the opening day be March 30. ASSOCIATION ST. ALBANS CLUB The twenty-second annual meeting of the St. Albans Association Football Club was held in the Young Men's Christian Association's rooms last evening. Mr J. Keir Simpson presided over a good attendance of members. During the, evening, Mr J. E. Jones, president, and Mr R. B. Bunt., sectetar.y, of the Canterbury Football Association, briefly addressed the meeting. They congratulated the senior team on reaching the final of the English Cup, and wished the club every success in the coming season. Mr Bunt briefly touched on matters connected with the working of the parent- association. Five new members were elected to the club, and the opening day was fixed for next Saturday.
