CERCLE FRANCAIS
# Professor C. Malthus presided at the annual meeting of Cercle Francais, held in the Students' Union Building, Canterbury College. The annual re-pox-t, read by the honorary secretary and treasurer, Miss J. Horth, reviewed the activities of the last year, during which 12 ordinary meetings had been held, followed by a public meeting held in the Little Theatre, Canterbury College, where the prizes, won in the oral French examination organised by Cercle Francais for pupils of secondary schools, were distributed. The balance-sheet showed a small credit balance, and a nucleus for the library fund. Officers for the current year were elected as follows: —Patrons, Monsieur Joubert, chief consul for France in Auckland, and Mr Geoffrey Kingscote. consular agent for France in Christchurch; president, Professor C. Malthus; vice-presidents. Miss K. Gresson and Mr Sydney Thompson; honorary secretary and treasurer, Miss J. Horth; assistant honorary secretary, Miss Annette Thompson; committee, Madame Alan Just, Mdlle Paula Gros, Mr C. Ridgen, and Mr C. L. Low. It was decided that meetings should be held during the year at the Students' Union building on Wednesday evenings at intervals of three weeks. Several new members were elected. Amongst those present were Professor C. Malthus, Miss K. Gresson. Miss Hardie, Miss J. Horth, Miss Violet Thomson, Miss Annette Thompson, Mdllc. P. Gros, Mdlle. G. Bobenrieih Mdlle. Lucienne Colen, Miss Janet Brown, Miss M. J. Westall, Miss Betty Waller, Mr H. Cato, Mr R. J. McLaren, and Mr G. W. Gambles.
