INDUCTION OF PASTOR
SPECIAL SERVICE AT LINWOOD A special service for the induction of the Rev. A. Ernest Laybourn. a student pastor, was held at the Linwood Congregational Church yesterday. Visiting ministers attending the assembly of the Congregational Union of New Zealand took part in the ceremony and there was a large congregation. The service was conducted by the Moderator, the Rev. Harry Johnston, who gave Mr Laybourn the right hand into the ministry. The church's statement of the call was read by Mr D. Richardson, the senior deacon, and was replied to by Mr Laybourn. The induction prayer was then read by the Rev. Norman Burgess. The Rev. A. Mead, president of the Congregational Union, in his charge to the new minister, emphasised the special duties which would be required of a young minister. It would be necessary, he said, for Mr Laybourn to remember that he was still a student preparing for the future. The Rev. I. Sarginson, the retiring minister, in his charge to the church, asked the congregation not to be toe exacting on their young minister, but to give him full support, especially during his years, of study.
