SPELLING AND SPORT
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—Two things educational took my attention in "The Press" this morning; first, Dr. Hight's remarks about the spelling of university entrants, and, second, the remarks of a correspondent on the drilling and dancing of Training College students. Concerning the first. Is Dr. Hight sure that after passing the M.A. degree examination scholars (so designated) can spell? There was a time, I think, when they had 10. And, second, If sport is going to be in future—it is fast becoming so—the most important subject in secondary schools, well, of course, the students must give up much time to it in their training days. Why worry about spelling when high jumping is so much more attractive?—Yo.urs, etc. UNCLE REMUS. March 9.. 1935.
