NOTES ON THE RACING ;sri-,i-lar. to thk i'Ui:-:-.: CROMWELL. March 0. The Cromwell Jockey Club's meeting was concluded to-day in fine weather. and before a record attendance. The result of the meeting assures the I club of being able . to carry on. | A Narrow Win Mill'ord was made a better favourite than either Amy Johnson or Queen of Song for the Bendigo Hack Handicap. He got chopped out at the start and Johnnv led Queen of Song and Silver j Lark to the home turn, where both ' Amy Johnson and Milford moved up. Queen of Song took charge at the distance, and just stayed on long enough to beat Amy Johnson by a neck, with Milford a length away. Blue Metal Successful Blue Metal, who was a slightly better favourite than Cbhota for the Jockey Club Handicap, waited cn McNab and Meadow Lark until the straight was entered, and then ran past'and won easily from McNab, with Meadow Lark a close third. Started Badly Wynross, who was made a good (avourite for the Bannockburn Harness Trot lost several seconds at the start and Shirley Bmgen led Wynross for more than a mile. Then the latter took charge and led Shirley Bingen and Erin's Chance into the straight. Erin's Chance finished fast, but failed by two lengths to catch Wynross. Ouywm was five lengths away, with Shirley Bingen next. By a Neck Dodge was made an odds-on chance in the Earnscleugh Hack Handicap, with Ballad next in demand. The latter at once drew out and at the end of three furlongs was six lengths clear of Memories, Some Acre, and Dodge. Ballad tired in the straight, and Dodge not up to win by a neck i'rom Johnny. Ballad was three lengths away, third, and Some Acre a poor fourth. Led All the Way Trivet was sent out a very short odds-on chance for the President's Handicap, and leading all the way had no difficulty in holding oil Amy Johnson to beat her by half a length. Queen of Song was V lengths oil' third. Meadow Lark stood at the post, taking no part in the race. j The Saddle Trot I Firecrest and Daphne Queen carried j nearly half (he pool invested on the Tarras Saddle Trot. Colleen Lee led for three furlongs, then Stepaway took charge and led Daphne Queen and Firecrest along the back and across the top. The last-named was beaten at the home turn, where _ Daphne Queen and Stepaway were joined by Slipalong. These three raced to the judge abreast all the way down the straight, and finished in that order, half-lengths separating them at the post. Slow lo Start Rifle Range was much better fancied than cither Song Boy or Silver Lark for the Farewell Handicap. The favourite and Memories were slow to jump out, and McNab and Ballad led for three furlongs. McNab led into the straight, and won comfortably by two lengths from Silver Lark, with a similar distance to the third horse. , r ),20 p.m.JK'NTLV HACK AP, of l.jii .-ova.
