ST. JAMES'
FAKEWELL PERFORMANCE OF J THE GAIETIES i j Patrons at the St. James' Theatre on j Saturday night were treated to a rare j feast of entertainment, when Stanley j McKay's "Gaieties of 1935" Revue Company made its final appearance m Christchurch, after a season of 66 nights. A number of bright new items and several request numbers all combined to make the entertainment pleasant and well varied, and there can be no doubt that the ambition of the j company to make the grand finale a | huge success was fully realised. In an entertainment in which the ■ general standard is so high it is difficult to single out anyone for special i praise; but to judge from the applause ■ which greeted the appearance of the i comedians, Frank Perrin and Ike Dela- ; vale, it was clear that they had estab- j lished a great popularity with Christchurch audiences. By special request. Victor Burke sang his most popular song, "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen,"' and was later heard in a duet, "Battle Eve" with Cecil Perry. As leading artists, both gave worthy performances. Probably the most popular item of the evening was "An Arabian Night." featuring "The Flying Arabs." No better display of acrobatics could have been wished for. At the conclusion of the performance, Ihe entire company appeared on the stage, and While bouquets were being presented, bombarded a cheering audience with streamers and sweets. Mr Stanley McKay thanked the patrons for their attendance and the company for its loyal support and co-operation during the season. Christchurch has said good-bye to a revue company which j will not be soon forgotten.
