POWER SUPPLY SCHEME REPORT MADE TO CITY COUNCIL (sriCI.VL *0 THE PBKSS.) NELSON, March 8. Reporting to last night's meeting of the Nelson City Council on the negotiations between the council and the. Waimea Power Board about the proposed bulk supply scheme, Councillor S. A. Gibbs said that the committee acting on the authority granted by the council, had secured the services of Mr J. R. Templin, of Christchurch as a consulting electrical engineer. The city electrical engineer had gone to Christchurch to explain the whole position, and Mr Templin would later visit Nelson. There was nothing fur. ther to report about the actual agreement. Returning Officer The Nelson City Council last evening appointed the Town Clerk (Mr P. Mitchell) as returning officer for th# municipal elections in May. Water Supply ' Nelson uses an average of 80 gallons of water a day for each person. The city engineer (Mr J. G. Littlejohn) reported to the council last evening that approximately 1.000,000 gallons of water a day was being used in the city. Meter charts showed that the consumption from the big dam was 480,000 gallons, and the draw off from the weir was 500,000 gallons a day a total almost of 1,000,000 gallons. Golf The Nelson Club's golf course should be in excellent playing condition this year, and is, in fact, looking and playing particularly well, even at this early stage. The opening of the season is proposed for March 16. The club will hold its usual Easter tournament, and the indications to a large entry this year, including many visitors. Last year outside entries were affected by an inconvenient tournament date Messrs C. M. Collins and R. A. Stedman have been elected to vacancies on the committee. Personal Mr A. B. Hurst, a member of the Napier City Council, is visiting Nelson. Mr Hurst is a former resident of Nelson. Mr and Mrs C. V. Knapp, Hamilton, who have been on a holiday visit to Nelson, will return north by to-night's steamer. Mr N. S. Tankersley. agricultural master at Nelson College, has now completed his M.Agr. Sc. degree. His thesis was "An Economic Survey of Tomato Growing in Nelson."
