ACCIDENTS
OLD .MAN DROPS DEAD IDENTITY UNKNOWN An elderly man. whose identify remained unknown to the police early this morning, dropped dead at the bar of the Royal Hotel a few minutes after 5 o'clock last evening. It is stated that the man went to the' bar, had one drink, and fell as he turned to go away. An inquest, will be held. The man is described as being about 70 years of age, about sft 7in in height, weighing about lOst. and of medium build. He had grey hair, bald on top, a grey straggly moustache, blue eyes, and a false lower denture. He was dressed in a dark grey suit, two waistcoats of the same colour, heavy grey wool socks, black boots, size 9, and an old grev felt hat with bound edges. His left eye had been blackened during the last few days. FOUNT) UNCONSCIOUS F. Darby, a railway employee, aged 48 years, of 4 Alexander street, Bexley, was found unconscious in Pages road, near Sandilands, about 10.30 last evening. He was picked up by a St. John Ambulance, and regained consciousness on the way to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where he was found to be suffering from a slight cut over his eyes and concussion. He was admitted. Darby could not remember how the accident happened, but from the badly bent forks of his bicycle, which was found near to him, it seems probable that he was struck by a motor-car or some heavy vehicle.
