MILITARY SERVICE IN FRANCE

+ PERIOD EXTENDED TO TWO YEARS LONDON, March c. The Paris correspondent of the "News-Chronicle" says the Government has definitely decided to extend the period of compulsory military service from one to two years. This will be embodied in a bill to be presented to Parliament soon. Radical-Socialist opposition to the extension has largely disappeared, due to the fact that adoption of the two-year service would take 100,000 young unemployed men off the labour market. France's internal situation is becoming so desperate that it is dominating everything else.
