MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY
♦ ; THREE WORLD-FAMOUS RIDERS TO-MORROW At Monica Park to-morrow night three world-famous dirt track stars will make their first and only appear- j ance this season. They are "Tiger" j Stevenson, Arthur Atkinson, and Billy j Lamont. To-morrow night also Jack Hobson, the star among the local j riders, will make his last appearance | in Christchurch, Hobson is leaving! New Zealand by the Rangitiki next Friday, having secured an engagement with the famous Wembley Stadium in London through the interest of Lionel Van Praag, who was so much impressed by Hobson's style that he cabled the Wembley management and got Hobson his chance there. As the broadsiding season definitely closes with a charity meeting on Saturday, March 16, there should be a record crowd to-morrow night to see the two famous Englishmen, the spectacular Australian, and the last appearance of the local rider. Known as the "terror of the speedway," Stevenson has the remarkable record of having captained England in tests for four years, and having been captain of his home team, West Ham, for six years. Only 'an outstanding rider could hold such positions for so long, considering the rapid changes of fortune to which speedway riders are exposed. He has held the British individual title, and comes from Sydney this season with four track records—for two and three laps, rolling and clutch starts. Arthur Atkinson is Stevenson's riding companion. He also is a test rider, and although only 21 years of age, has already proved himself a champion. Lamont's record is well known, for he has ridden on speedways the world over, and has held perhaps more records than any other rider, including the world's championship. To have three interi national speedway stars in ChristJ church is a unique occasion, and the management's enterprise deserves a I big crowd.
