SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT CLUB
"A MOST DISAPPOINTING YEAR" A loss of £35 0s 7d was sustained during the year, according to the annual report of the South Canterbury Hunt Club. Depreciation amounting to £O4 had been written off and a further sum of £75 18s had been paid off the mortgage on the Kennels, leaving a balance of £(352 Gs 7d owing on the property. The report stated that the last season was one of the most disappointing in recent years. Rain, frost, and snow caused a number of meets to be abandoned and except for a certain number of good days the season was a poor one. The best meets were those held in the Waimatc and Geraldine districts, as the country there was not so badly affected by the weather. The club's contract with Waimatc proved most satisfactory and arrangements had been entered into to hunt seven times in the district this season. Reference is made to the Point-to-Point meeting and the steeplechase meeting, and thanks are expressed to the Canterbury Jockey Club for a donation of £2O. and to other donors of prizes. The club extends thanks to farmens for granting permission to hunt over their property. Regret is expressed at "the deaths of Major Waller, a member of the committee, and of Mr Edgar Jones, another member, sympathy being extended to their relatives.
