EPSOM TRAINING NOTES

INTERESTING WORK-OUT [THE PRESS Special Service] AUCKLAND, March 7.. An interesting work-out was seen at Epsom this morning between Tinokaha, Min Bells, Auto Machine, Homeward, Luminate, and Nimbus, who left the mile and a half post at intervals of one second, and were joined at the mile and a quarter disc by Patricia Bells. When it came to serious business. Homeward shot out and, finishing full of running, comfortably beat Luminate and Min Bells, who finished together, and recording 3min 30sec—a useful run, as the dirt track was not fast. Five furlongs from home Min Bells took the lead, and set a livelier pace; but on reaching the quarter mile, Homeward covered the last half in lmin 6 3-ssec. without being unduly bustled. Luminate finished strongly to reach Min Bells at the post, their times being 3min 32scc and 3min 35scc respectively. Nimbus, who was allowed to trail the field all the way, completed his task in 3min 32sec, the final section easily in lmin Bscc. After making 10 lapses early io a mile and a half task, Mute settled down to trot solidly alongside Lucky Love, and they ran the last mile in 2min 25scc, the tinal half in lmin 10 2-sscc. Audo Patch tried to concede Young Rodney three seconds in a mile and a half, but alter going 3min 46sec he failed to catch the leader, who went 3min 48sec. A slow beginning made Audo Patch's task more difficult, but he trotted the last half in lmin 12scc. and could have done belter. Realty and Manna's Son ran 3min 42sec, Ihe trotter going easily in lmin 12sec for the last hall', while Realty was alongside him under a pull. Worthy Nor, a daughter of the Auckland Trotting Cup winner, Norah Creina, took 3min lscc to run a mile and a quarter, stopping at the finish. She is on the big side, and may make some progress later. Silver Watch and Star Pronto ran a mile and a half in 3mm 3tlsec, but they were not serious until the last few furlongs. Star Pronto, unhopplcd, was a shade behind Silver Watch at the quarter, but sprinting with clash, he was with the grey at the linish, registering 33scc. Arabond, Aerial Bell, Mountain Sun, Charteris Bay, and Mazda were given useful tasks. CHEVIOT TROTTING CLUR MEETING OF COMMITTEE A molding of the commiltee of the Cheviot Trotting Club was held in the Public Library, Cheviot, on Wednesday evening. Mr N. K. Wilkinson presided, and others present were Messrs M. C. Morrison. K. Marshall. V. G. G. Wcstoui-a. f). McLaren, A. ('. Fuiler, .1, Palon. .1. Y, Moir, J. D. K. Winskill. .J. McAdam, and W. !_). S'ewart. The tender of W. Watts for the ri;;ht to sell the rare books was accepted. Messrs P. Burke and Company wrote offering a further sum for the booth privileges. The oiler was accepted. Mr W. 11. MacDougall wrote about the proposed betting system, pointing out that alterations would be necessary to the totalisator house if the win and place betting system was adopted. The president reported that lie had discussed the question individually with the majority of the committee, v.-ho were in favour of reverting to the 70 per cent, first horse, 20 per cent, second horse, and 10 per cent third horse system being adopted. The president's action was endorsed. Mr P. M. Kerr wrote accepting the position of clerk of the course, and Dr. W. G. Todd replied accepting the position of honorary surgeon. The New Brighton Trotting Club advised that their saddle cloths would be available for use again this year. Mr M. W. Dingwall was appointed to attend to the barriers for the meeting. Messrs R. G. G. Westenra and E. Marshall were appointed as patrol stewards for the day, and Mr C. Dicrck was appointed as horse steward. It was decided to renew the timber posts at the totalisator house where necessary. Mr P. Fit/.gibbon was elected as a member of the club. The Duuedin Jockey Club will make application for the floating permit, resulting from the abandonment of the Kurow meeting. Contact easily beat Belle Zircon in the best mile of the day, taking lmin 46.{ sec, the first four furlongs in 52sec. Eastern Chief and Flail went 10 furlongs in 2min 12sec, the first mile in lmin 46isec, and the first four furlongs in 52sec. Closing Time (E. Bartle) ran five furlongs in lmin 3sec, and Young Idea, three in 36;Isec. Homer and The Trump took 55sec for half a mile. Count Ito did the best five furlongs in lmin 2Jsec. Baldwin up, did 10 furlongs in 2min Bsec, the first half in 50sec and the first mile in lmin 42sec. Vintage is under a veterinary's care at Caulfield. A decision will be made later whether he will race at Sydney. Gloaming's breeder, Mr Ernest Clarke, although selling his stud, will continue as an owner.
