NEW BRIGHTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
The monthly meeting of the New Brighton District High School Committee was held last evening. Mr A. E. La%vry was in the chair, and there were present:—Mesdames H. O. Brooks, J. Bellamy, and M. Moses, and Messrs L. R. Hurrell (secretary), R. H. Stapleton, G. Cattermole, B. H. Dean, F. W. Larcombe, and the headmaster (Mr F. W. Moore). Mr Dean was appointed a delegate to attend a meeting to be held on March IS at the Education Board offices to consider (he advisability of continuing the planting of trees at Waimairi by the pupils of various ('schools in view of the recent disastrous fire in the plantation, i The headmaster's report stated that ! the attendances (main and south comj bined) had been 54,'-!, out of a total I roll of 58'). The daily average of 40 ' absentees was partly accounted for bv I some cases of summer sickness, biit there are still a number of unwarranted absences. Mr 11. A Oliver has consented to act as honorary instructor of the fife band, and 33 boys had their first practice yesterday. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr Oliver. The annual picnic resulted in a loss of £9 6s 2d. the receipts being £2'! 0s 3d, and the expenditure £32 4s.
