VICE REGAL HOME
REPORTED PURCHASE OF HOUSE IX CM RISTCH U RCII Although it was stated in Christchurch yesterday that "Hambleden," a property in Bealey avenue, had been bought as a residence for the new Governor-General, Lord Galway, neither the owner of the property nor officials at Wellington who were communicated with by telephone knew anything of a deal having been completed. "Hambleden," which is at the corner of Springfield road, was formerly' the residence of Mr R. M. Macdonald, and is now owned and occupied by Mr G. Oakleigh Greenwood. Questioned about the rumoured sale of ' is property yesterday, Mr Greenwood had no comment to make, beyond that no member of his household had been in communication with any newspaper in New Zealand about it. Nothing was known about any purchase of the property by the privr l e secretary to the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener), although any such deal would have to be handled by that Minister's department.
