TAROONA IN SERVICE .The new steamer Taroona, for the, Launceston-IVlelbourne service, called at Fremantle on Saturday. February 23, on her way from England to Melbourne. She had made a fast passage, during which she averages! 16 knots, having left Greenock on January 25. She is commanded by Captain Evan Evans, a veteran master of the Bass Strait service. Captain Evans said terrific seas had been encountered in the North Atlantic for three davs, but the ship went through without difficulty. He added that she had been designed to ineet requirements of the service for the iiext 25 years at least. The Taroona was to make her first Melbourne-Launceston trip yesterday.
