IT RESS ASSOCI&TIOii TELEGRAM.) ! DUNEDIN, March 6. Large entries were forward in both fat cattle and sheep sections at Burnsido sale to-day. The entry of cattle numbered 2SO head, and comprised medium quality bullocks, only. An odd consignment of heavy caulo was keenly competed for throughout at an advance of 10s a head. Medium quality bullocks also participated in a similar rise. Young and heifers sold at slightly firmer rates. Extru prime heavy bullocks sold to £ll 12s 6d, prime heavy £9 2s Gd to £lO 7s 6d, medium £7 7s 6d to £8 17s tid, light down to £5 17s 6d; extra prime heifers to £7 7s Gd, and prime cows to £6 7s 6d. Vealers comprised the bulk of the store cattle entry of 220, and on account of the largo supply current values were barely maintained. A pen of three and four-year-old steers realised f 1 12s 6d. A.n entry of 50 dairy cows, mostly of indifferent quality, caroe forward. Any good young cows close to profit met with good competition, and realised up to £6 10s. The entry of fat sheep totalled approximately 3000, and comprised principally ones. On account of short supply wethers sold at firm rates. The offering of ewes included several consignments of outstanding quality, but as the entry was in excess of requirements, reduced prices from Is 6d to 2s 6d a head had to be accepted for this class, and over the final races the tendency for values to drop was even more pronounced. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 29s 7d, prime heavy 24s to 20s, medium 22s to 23s 6d, light down to 19s; extra prime heavy young ewes to 235, extra prime heavy 18s to 21s, prime heavy 16s to. 17s, medium 14s to 15s 6d, light down to lis. In the fat lamb section about 1000 were yarded. Export buyers operated at the reduced schedule, and butchers entered into tho market for all heavier grades. Butchers' extra prime heavy lambs sold to 275, prime heavy 22s Gd to 2-ls 6d, medium 20s 6d lo 23 s 9d, light down to 17s. There was a yarding of 141 fat. pigs, but the sale, although opening firm at last week's rates, had an easing tendency. Closing prices showed a reduction of 5s a head for both baconers and porkers. With a greatly increased entry of fat cattle, numbering 350 head, values fell by from 25s to 35s a head at today's sale at Stortford Lodge. Cows suffered the greatest decline, then heifers and bullocks in that order. Tho demand was again good, and although the rates were considerably back competition generally was well maintained, with top lines selling well. Bullocks medium to prime to £9; others from £7 7s. Cows medium to prime £5 5s to £6 2s; others from £2 12s 6d. Heifers medium to prime £5 17s 6d to £6 15s; others from £3 15s. The offering of 850 store cattle met with good enquiry, good prices being realised on all except inferior sorts. Bullocks to £7 2s; steers to £5; heifers to £2 8s; cows to £3 l.s. of about Cs to 2s M a head, with 'wethers slightly easier. Lambs were fairly steady. EWes medium to prime 17s 6d to 20s 6d; others from 13s. Wethers medium to prime 22s to 2-ls; others from 18S'6d. Lambs to 245. The storo sheep totalled 12,000, and values were generally steady for ewes, with store conditioned lambs and two-tooth ewes slightly easier. Two-tooth ewes to 23s 6d; five-year to 10s sd; store to 14s; wethers to 21s; white-face lambs to 14s 8d; black-face lambs to 16s Bd. TEMUKA STOCK SALE Tho largest entry of the season came forward for the fortnightly sale held in the Tomuka saleyards. Fat Cattle—Nearly 200 head were forward—nearly a. record for recent years. Good quality sold well, but the medium cows were not up to late rates. The range was: Rest fat steers £7 to >'9 12s 6d, medium i' 4 t2s 6d to ,ib 17s tid, best, fat heifers £6 2s tid to £7 7s (3d, medium £4 2s tid 1o .£5 7s I tid, best cows £5 2s 6d to i'tj 17s 6d, medium £3 12s 6d to £4 7s 6d, light 37s lid to i'2 7s fid. vealers to 22s 6d, runners to ■i-2 7s 6d. Store Cattle—.Stero cattle met with a very dragging sale. Owing to the works ceasing to kill bulls and potting cows this class dropped by moro thu" 20s a head. Empty cows sold from 7s 6d to o7s tid, bulls 10s to 255, well-bred IS-month Hereford steers £2 ss, yearling steers 20s. Dairy Cattle—Good sorts were in demand and sold at: Springing heifers to £4 ss, springing cows £3 to £6, cows in profit to £4 ss. Pat Lambs—About SOO head were yarded. Best lambs made from 20s to 225, and lighter sorts from 18s 6d to 19s !Jd. Fat Sheep—A moderate yarding of fat sheep was forward, the sale being a keen one at late rates. Prime fat ewes 15s to l(is 1 Od, medium lUs 6d to 34s tid, freezing lis to 12s lOd, best wethers 22s 6d to 21s lOd, medium 19s to 2ls tid. Storo Sheep—A large yarding of store sheep was offered, young ewes of good qualify selling briskly. Aged travelled ewes were hard to sell. ' l.ambs were selling at slightly improved rales. Pigs—A large yarding of pigs met witli ;t, dragging sale, weaners selling ;it about 3s a head less than late rates. Good store pigs .-howed no change iu values. Prices were: Weaners 0s tid to 12s,- slips 14s to 17s Gd, good stores to 30s, medium to 235, fat pigs to £3 15s.
