AVONSIDE ORCHESTRA
FOURTH ANNUA I, CONCERT The fourth annual concert of the Avonside Orchestra was given in the Avonside Church hall last evening, under the conductors-hip of Mr Ralph Lilly. There was a Mood audience, and the concert, was considered the best yet presented by the orchestra. The following was the programme: —Overture. "Barber of Seville" (Rossini); idyll, "Glowworm" (Linke); valsc, "Zephyr Breezes" (Gung'l), the orchestra; vocal solos, (a) "Arise, O Sun," (b> "Trees" (Rasbach), Mrs Arthur Edwards, with violin obbligato bv Mr A. Munro; miniature suite, (a) Children's Dance, (b) Intermezzo, (c) Scene du bal (Eric Coates), the orchestra; siring quintet, (under the direction of Mr F. C. Nicholls). first violin Mr F. C. Nicholls, second violin Miss Elaine Wilson, third violin Mr C. Chaplin, 'cello Mr G. Newson, piano Miss V. Wilson; Roman March (Wcly). Musette and Gavotte (Bach), Minuet-and Trio, from "Jena" Symphony (Beethoven), the orchestra; "Marche Indienne" (Sellenick), and Woodland Pictures (Rural Suite) (P. Fletcher), the orchestra; violin solo, "Sonata in A major" (Handel), Mr Alex. Munro, A.T.C.L.; Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 (Liszt): "Love's Old Sweet Song," "Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond," and "Drink To Me Only," the orchestra; vocal solos, (a) "I Heard a Thrush at Eve" (Cadman), (b) "Bird Songs at Eventide" (Coates), Mrs| Arthur Edwards, with flute obbligato by Mr W. Dobbie: "Hallelujah" Chorus from "Messiah" (Handel), the orchestra. ______________ |
