TWO SHOPS GUTTED
* ESTIMATED DAMAGE £ 4000 (PRESS iSSOCJiTIOS TEMGRASi.) INVERCARGILL, March 2. Losses estimated at £4OOO resulted from an early morning Are at Otautau which gutted the premises of W. J. Wesney, jeweller and fancy goods
dealer, and also the shop adjoining belonging to H. Laing. baker. Other shops in the same block, leased by A. Harrington, Ltd., grocer, and Brown Bros., butchers, were damaged by smoke and water, with considerable loss of stock. The cause of the Are is unknown. Insurance is held at Dunedin. The stock loss, as estimated by Wesney, who owns the whole block, is £2OOO.
