NEW ZEALAND AIR PAGEANT
❖ GOOD PERFORMANCES AT MASTERTON GLOUCESTER TROPHY WON BY OTAGO PILOT v rtieS.? ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) MASTERTON, March 3. The official North Island air pageant, organised by the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club at the Hood aerodrome yesterday, attracted 40 aeroplanes, including Ave defence machines, from all parts of New Zealand. The weather conditions were almost ideal, and the pageant was considered the most successful yet held in the Dominion, the standard of performance being high. Only one minor mishap occurred when a Southland aeroplane, piloted by A. P. Finlayson, touched the ground with one wingwhen landing. The damage was not serious, but the aeroplane had to be dismantled. The pilot was not injured. There was a large attendance of the public. A feature of the day's events was air drill and formation Hying by the New Zealand Air Force, controlled by wireless from the ground, orders to aircraft being broadcast simultaneously to the public, who were enabled to follow the sequence of movements. Another interesting item was a mock encounter between territorials and a machine. "Scotty" Frazer made several parachute descents. Results:— GLOUCESTER TROPHY (Navigational test.) E. G.
