AUSTRALIAN MURDERED IN NEW GUINEA

CANBERRA, March 2. Edward Coljjn McDonald, an assistant district officer in New Guinea, news of whose death was cabled yesterday, was murdered on Wednesday by a native constable in the Sepik district of New Guinea. McDonald was shot while asleep and the constable, who afterwards attempted to commit suicide, is suffering from severe concussion.
