PILGRIMS MEET

HAPPY GATHERING AT "THORRINGTON" SUCCESSFUL REUNION Although the number of original pilgrims left in Canterbury is comparatively small, it was evident from the large number which attended the quarterly gathering of members and friends of the Canterbury Pilgrims' and Early Settlers' . Association at Thorrington" on Saturday afternoon, that those left, and their children and descendants, have no intention of letting the numbers of the association dwindle with the passing

years. ' The gathering was an outstanding success. There can be few more beautiful and extensive grounds in Christchurch than those which surround "Thorrington," the residence of Mr Charles Clark, and none more suitable for such a function. There was no formality in the gathering, the purpose of these meetings being solely to bring together old friends. The visitors, some from distant parts of the province, began to arrive about 2 o'clock, and until the time for assembling for afternoon tea came, were content to wander about the green velvet-like stretches of lawn by the lake, over rustic bridges, and along the shaded walks cut through many varieties of New Zealand native trees and ferns.

Hundreds of chairs placed round the lawns were soon filled—groups stood here and there, and as friends of half and three-quarters of a century shoos hands heartily, they laughed and wer« young again. The committee in charge of the arrangements was Messrs H. L. Bowker, A. Selwyn Bruce, and E. M. LovellSmith, and the success of the afternoon was a tribute to the thoroughness with which their preparations had been made. Throughout the afternoon, music was supplied by the two Dhnl brothers' (saxophone and accordion). Among the many included in the gathering were the following:—Mr and Mrs C. N. Morgan, Mr and Mrs Isaac Robinson. Mr and Mr H. ChiUingworth, Mr and Mrs E. Conway, Mr and Mrs W. J. Barker, Mr and Mrs Shirley Thomson, Mr and Mrs E. Gatehouse, Mr and Mrs F. J.
