OBITUARY
MRS A. OLIVER The death occurred on Thursday evening of Mrs Adelaide Oliver, wife of Mr John Allan Oliver, Rugby street. Mrs Oliver was born in Christchurch 67 years ago, and after her marriage travelled extensively with her husband over the North and South Island. Her kindly disposition endeared her to a large circle of friends. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Miss G.. Phillips (Christchurch). The Rev. Nathan Salas conducted the service held at the home and at the Linwood cemetery yesterday afternoon. Mr and Mrs R. M. D. Morten ("Ahuriri"), the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Miss V. Hynes entertained several friends at a dinner party given at "Otahuna" last night the guests later attending the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry dance. The guests were Miss Nell Morten, Mr and Mrs R. M. D. Morten, Mr and Mrs L. Coop, Mr and Mrs Gavin Turnbull, Miss Margaret Cooper, Miss Lesley Milnes, Miss Mollie Masefield, Messrs R. and T. Morten, Alan Menzies, J. McAlpine, and B. Hutchinson. GIFT PARTY Miss B. Sinclair, who has been a member of the dining-room staff of Madden's tea and luncheon rooms, Ashburton. for the last four years, was entertained at a "kitchen" gift party given by her fellow workers and a number of friends on Thursday evening. Miss N. Rose asked Miss Sinclair to accept an antique fireside kerb, and on behalf of Mr and Mrs S. Madden and family presented her with a firescreen to match.
