CHRISTCHURCH The market report for the week ending March 1 is as follows: Vegetables—Fair supplies of vegetables, with the exception of cauliflowers and cabbages, have been available throughout the week, and ruling prices are as follows:Cauliflowers: Supplies very scarce, consignments from the south realising up to 14s 6d a sack. Cabbages: Supplies scarce, best quality local realising up to Gs lid a dozen; south, 6s a sack. Lettuces: Best quality Is Gd to 2s Id a dozen, inferior 4d to Is a dozen. Cucumbers: Cd to 9d a box. Potatoes: id to Id per lb, according to quality. Green peas: Is 6d to 2s a peck. Onions: Best quality 4s Od to 5s a sugar-bag, others 3s to 4s. Beans: Id to lAd per lb. Carrots: 2s to 2s 9d a sugar-bag, according to quality. Marrows: Best quality 4s to 5s a dozen, others Is to 3s. Pumpkins: Supplies very plentiful, realising from id to Id per lb. Garlic: 4d per lb. * Celery: Best quality 4s to 5s a dozen, others Is to 3s. Swedes: Local, 2s a sugarbag. Parsnips: 2s to 2s Cd a sugarbag. Root varieties: Cd to Is a dozen. Apples—Steady supplies coming to hand. Values are as follows: —Cox's Orange, 4s Cd to 7s a case, according to quality. Worcester Pearmains: 3s Gd to 5s a case, according to quality. Cooking apples: Lord Wolsleys 5s Cd to Gs a case, other varieties 4s Cd to 5s a case. Tomatoes —On account of smaller quantities coming forward during the week, prices have shown an advance on last week's values, extra choice lines realising from Is 9d to 2s 3d a case, inferior 9d to Is Gd a case. Peaches: Extra choice dessert 3d to 4td per lb. others Ud to 2d. Nectarines: Supplies very scarce, choice dessert realising from 4d to ajd per lb, other: 2d to 3id. Plums: A line of special dessert plums c; me to hand during the week and realised up to 4'd per lb, others realising 2s to 3s a case, according to quality. Strawberries: Best quality Is Id to Is 3id per punnet, inferior 8d to Is. Grapes: Supplies plentiful, realising 8d to Is per lb. according to quality. Pears: William Bon Chretien in short supply, realising 3s Gd to 4s a half-case, and up to 7s a bushel case: other varieties lower.

Imported Fruit—Supplies of Jamaienn oranges are available, realising from 27s 6d to 32s 6d a case, according to count. A shipment of Australian pines crme to hand during the week, and on account of the fruit being too green values suffered accordingly, prices ranging from 12s to 18s 6d a case, according to condition. Shipments arriving from oversea? Supplies of Californian lemons. naveK and grapefruit, and also Cook Island bannni'.s. are expected earlv next week. Apples are in good supply, large quantities r f Cox's Orange pippins arriving from the Nelson district, but mrny iines are showing signs of bitter pit, and these have to be sold at low rates to clear. Cox's Orange pippins are now reaching the market from Central Olago, and growers would be weil advised to hold their sup-plies over for a week or two. as reports state that Nelson grown will be off the market shortly. Bon Chretien pears have better demand. A lartie shipment of Californian navel oranges and lemons arrived in the marts yesterday. These were transhipped at Auckland. The Samoan bananas, which arrived last week, have ripened well, and the stocks are now out of wholesale hands. Greengages are realising better prices. Peaches are in heavy supply, but only best quality realise good values. Plums continue in heavy supply. The tomato market is firmer, as supplies have cased off owing to the colder weather.
